Athletic Recruiting
It’s no secret that Division-Won’s goal is to help lacrosse players continue their career at the collegiate level. Our years of industry connections, hundreds of meetings with coaches and staff, and thousands of calls and emails with clients and colleges have prepared us to walk you, the student athlete, and your family through the college recruiting process for lacrosse.
What was once a forgotten sport on college campuses across the nation is now the fastest growing sport, not only in America, but also in athletic departments at universities and colleges worldwide. With new programs popping up every season, opportunities for student athletes to play NCAA-sanction lacrosse are continuing to grow, and Division-Won wants to make sure that you land on the roster of your dreams!
Our recruiting process begins with an evaluation of the student athlete’s talent level. Not every player has Division 1 talent, and that’s OK! We’re here to determine what your strengths are, not only on the field, but also as a person. Doing this allows us to develop a comprehensive recruiting profile for the student athlete, which is used to help coaches and staff understand the intangibles that you bring to the table that may not be seen when looking at tapes or statistics. Once we’ve determined what type of player and student you are, we’ll begin to prepare a target list of colleges, specifically tailored to the student athlete’s wants, needs, and goals.
As the list of target colleges grows, D-1 will provide a detailed contact sheet with contact information for coaches and staff. Before having the student athlete reach out, we’ll prepare for interviews, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings with a series of mock interviews and practice Q&A sessions.
As coaches are contacted, we not only monitor the correspondence, but we also develop and continually update the client’s personal organizational chart and action plans. We also will advise any club coaches or private trainers on how they can be a part of the student athlete’s recruiting process. Many times, a reference from a well-known club team or trainer can be the deal breaker in getting into a program at a “tough” school.
As the senior season rolls on, our staff will be working hard to find the best tournaments and showcases for the student athlete to attend, as well as providing assistance in developing a strong recruiting video and website. Throughout the entire process, Division-Won schedules family meetings to ensure that both the parents and the student athlete are all on the same page. After all, this is a very exciting time for a young lacrosse player!
The athletic recruiting process is a lot like dating, with college coaches/scouts and high school student athletes sizing each other up and searching for the right match. The process requires participants to understand and observe NCAA rules and regulations, conduct thorough research, schedule home and campus visits, network and communicate appropriately, and, for most student athletes, engage in self-marketing. Learn best practices from athletes who have achieved success and the experts who have helped them. Here at Division-Won, we are experts in guiding our clients on how to fully understand the NCAA compliance rules and regulations.
